I forgot to verify the ActivityPub

I was just alerted by someone that the profile on Mastodon doesn’t have an verified ActivityPub linkage. So it’s high time I corrected that as I now see that 100% there’s no linkage, just some bare text dropped into the verification table. Mastodon is likely going to need the ActivityPub path verified in it’s own little way by placing the special “link” with the “rel” tags set to “me” so that it can prove out I have some authoring/authorship on one URL that can be read easily by the other side of that linkage. Let’s see if that works or not.

Also I’m going to attempt to drop the meta tag that proves authorship on this site for things that I share too. Again for attribution purposes. That however needs to be an HTML meta tag embedded somewhere within this doc. Let me see if I can figure that out or not. I’ll try it first as inline code, as I don’t have a raw html editor in WordPress.com that I know of.

<meta name="fediverse:creator" content="@carpetbomberz@mastodon.online">

This likely will get ignored because it’s in pre-formatted text tag.

Still looking for raw HTML input,…

<meta name="fediverse:creator" content="@carpetbomberz@mastodon.online">

And this is a code block. Still not an raw html box. Feels like meta tags can only be directly added if I had access to the actual header files (which WordPress.com doesn’t allow for the free/unpaid versions). So I’ll publish this and see what happens. Likely the meta tag will just get filtered out and ignored. But at LEAST I have tried to tie/bind the two identities together.

    Here to try to guess at help. But when you say “the profile on Mastodon” do you mean your own profile or the one that comes up for this blog?

    The former can be accomplished as I did https://cosocial.ca/@cogdog by making sure on the URL listed my blog there is a hyperlink to that social account with the link attribute rel =”me”- I did that in the WordPress menu settings (do a view source on cogdogblog.com and search for rel =”me”

    I have yet to figure out how you do that for the ActivityPub powered blog’s presence on Mastodon (which I can only get to be search) I have tried a few variations of the same approach, but they do not verify.

    The fediverse:creator meta tags you are trying to insert do not accomplish verification, they instead make it so anytime someone posts a link to your site, it gets credited at the bottom, see https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/07/highlighting-journalism-on-mastodon/

    You do not need to stuff any HTML in, this is done in your ActivityPub settings – enable Open Graph and list https://carpetbomberz.com/ in the attributions domain.

    See it in action here https://cosocial.ca/@cogdog/115220353191177737

    my use of a cogdogblog.com URL makes it show up with the “more from…” gizmo at the bottom.

    I have yet to figure out how to get my WP blog to list verified links.

    Oh, you may want to edit your Site Icon under Settings — General unless you truly want that Google Wave representation of Carpetbomberz
